The lip-synching debate.

Britney Spears is in Australia with her 'Circus' tour this month. I'm not a fan of Britney, so I won't be attending. I don't hate her or anything- I just don't really like her music much.

It's been revealed that Britney will be lip-synching all her songs. Apparently she prefers to focus on the 'theatrics' of the concert and the dance routines.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but if you're paying around $200 to see the show (the most expensive tickets available are $1500!), you sort of actually do want to see a live show. If I was going to the concert and I found out she was going to be lip-synching, I'd be more inclined to watch a DVD of her concert. Essentially- it's the same thing. They might as well pull down a big screen and play the audience recordings from other concerts from her Circus tour.

The claim of Britney wanting to focus on dance routines is a pretty lame defence, I think.
Pink has more than made it clear that you can sing and dance at the same time. Pink does somersaults on a trapeze and still manages to sing perfectly.

If I had tickets to Britney's show- I'd be selling them and going to see an artist who sort of understands the concept of a live show.

What do you guys think? Are concert-goers being ripped off?

I think it's just a big slap in the face to capable musicians who are having trouble making a break in the industry and this girl doesn't even have to sing at her concerts and gets paid billions of dollars to do nothing.

i agree with you and Liv above me. Britney is cheating! i wouldn't pay money to see her sing live let alone lip syncing.

A concert without actual singing? That wrecks the vibe of everything. Don't you wish Britney didn't waste her time on the theatrics and just sang? Even one word would fine.

Though, I don't mind her fragrances. Is that bad of me to admit that?

i think if you are going to see a show of Britney and are honestly shocked that she is lip syncing, you deserve to be ripped off! It's a well known fact that she doesn't sing live. ever.

i guess if you are a Britney fan, it doesn't matter. but it is a little annoying to those artists out there who do work hard at giving audiences a live show AND a good preformance with theatrics involved.

but yeah, we know britney doesn't sing live. we know people are willing to pay over a grand to see her anyways. so umm, power to her for being able to charge so much i guess?

What a bummer. I'm definitely with you on this one.. if I'd paid that much for a concert, and was a fan of her music, I'd want to hear HER singing, not a recording!

I do agree that anyone who thought that Britney was actually going to sing live is a little silly. I don't think I remember a time when she actually sang live? However, I'd still be pissed if I'd paid that amount of money for a live concert, only to find out it wasn't live.

I had the impression that all her shows have always been lip-synched? Why is it such a big deal?

Here's the thing. I am not a Britney fan myself.
Sometimes when a big spectacular act is going to come to my state I think about going more for the entertainment factor...this is one I wouldn't have attended. All you have to do is google her, youtube search her Circus concerts from the US and know anything about her to know that she won't be singing live.

That is not something I can appreciate. I think it's weird that so many people actually expected her to. It's freakin' Britney Spears!

However, I do think that perhaps artists should have a disclaimer that comes with ticket sales to let consumers have an informed choice about whether to go or not.

Coco- I assume that it's been made such a big deal perhaps because a lot of her fans are younger so maybe they're a little bit naive to the whole lip synching thing. Or it could be because she hasn't toured Australia for ages, so maybe people sort of forgot that she's a known lip syncher.
