Storm London Watches // Q&A

 TIME // STORM LONDON WATCHES
FASHION BLOGGER Q&A

2Threads.com are giving fashion bloggers the chance to win a Storm London watch. To enter the competition, we're required to answer a few quick questions on our style inspiration.

1. The time you felt most inspired by fashion - your most inspiring fashion moment.
I don't think I have one moment in particular, I'm inspired by fashion all the time. Usually the most inspiring moments is when  I see someone with a great outfit on that you can tell isn't contrived or put together with the purpose of being "fashionable".

2. The time you were proudest of your outfit or style.
I guess this is just in recent times when I've finally decided to dress for me and not for anyone else. I don't care if people hate what I wear. It's all about being comfortable in your own skin I think.

3. The time in fashion you would most like to return to.
This is such a difficult question because I love 1920's flapper style fashion, I love the psychedelic trends of the 1960's, the grunge dorkiness of the 1990's but I'll think I'll have to narrow it down and pick the 1970's.. big collars, platform shoes and disco fever!

Clogs by Chanel. I thought they were ridiculously ugly at first, but after seeing them on Alexa Chung and Miley Cyrus, I have changed my mind. They are ridiculously wonderful and I would very much like a pair of my own to stomp around in.

Thanks to Frazz for removing the obnoxious Perez graffiti from the Miley Cyrus photos :)

The different styles are varying in price from $1000 upwards... who wants to fork out for my pair?

Chanel Clogs. What do you think? Love them or hate them?

dirty rich ♥

2 comments Tuesday, June 15, 2010
I received an email last week from a loverly lady called Gracie who is a representative of 'Dirty Rich', a brand new online store. I am very much convinced that Dirty Rich is my new favourite online shopping facility- and what's better is that it's based in Australia, hello cheap postage!

Dirty Rich stocks funky streetwear by Dimepiece, Married to the mob, Joyrich, Hellz Bellz & plenty of other amazing labels that are so difficult to get a hold of in the land down under.

Here's a couple of my favourite pieces:

I nearly died when I saw that floral blazer. I've been looking for one like that for AGES, so I am currently preparing my proposal of marriage to it. Ah-mazing.

Check out the Dirty Rich website, and have a look at all the drool worthy clothes on there! Tell me which ones you loooove ♥

And, I couldn't resist adding in another photo of that wonderful blazer..

Just a boy.

5 comments Monday, April 26, 2010

I am not liking the style of the majority of boys that I see during my daily adventures. (Now that just makes me sound like a prostitute.)

Can someone please explain to me why more boys do not dress like this? Fuuck.

(however, I am not fond of the choice of footwear in this shot..)

I have too many clothes.

5 comments Wednesday, March 31, 2010
Over the past two weeks, I've been continually reminding myself to clean out my wardrobe and chest of drawers as they are, quite literally, overflowing.

By 'clean out' I mean 'squash everything in tighter so I don't have to throw anything away'.
After a excellent post by Miss Peregrin and an equally fabulous one by Corrine/Frock & Roll I was inspired to catalogue the contents of my wardrobe and post the results on here.

I knew I had too many clothes but these results just freaked me out. I don't even want to know how much money I've spent on everything.

~ 40 tshirts/overshirt things.
~ 17 jackets/blazers.
~ 7 cardigans.
~ 8 pairs of leggings (black, floral and navy blue)
~ 21 skirts.
~ 9 pairs of shorts.
~ 2 pairs of jeans (I never wear them either!)
~ 7 vests.
~ 1 pair of non denim pants.
~ 72 dresses.
~ 12 hats/berets.
~ 38 pairs of shoes.
~ 16 bags

I didn't even attempt to count my belts and headscarves.. there'd be over 100 of them.

This little exercise has shown that I either need to throw out a million things or stop buying new ones.... as if that's going to happen!

What is lurking in your wardrobe? Are you also in need of a clean out?

photoshop strikes again- version: Madonna for Louis Vuitton.

Whilst viewing these photographs, do keep in mind that Madonna is 51 years old.

It really showcases how much editing does go into one photo shoot and how unnatural the whole industry is.

Well done, Louis Vuitton.

leggings of floral fabric are fabulous.

I don't care what people say, floral printed leggings are amazing.

I think I'm in love. ♥ ♥ ♥

disclaimer: I'd like to add in the fact that I never have and never will wear leggings as a substitute for pants. Floral leggings are no exception.

a delightful garment or two.

6 comments Monday, November 2, 2009
By now, many of you would be familiar with the denim style leggings that everyone seems to be sporting. For those that aren't familiar, these are essentially a pair of tights/leggings that look like denim.

Here's a photo:

I don't have a problem with these leggings if they are worn correctly. i.e. as LEGGINGS. They're not meant to be worn as a substitute for jeans. They're meant to be worn the same way you'd wear other leggings, like under an oversized tshirt.

Even if you're the skinniest person in the world, they still show everything and make the most attractive person look stupid.

Anyway, that's not the point of my post.

So, the clothing company I work for have a bit of a reputation for running with something that's popular. If a dress sells really well, they'll add sleeves or a high neck to it for winter. Or if a top is selling well, they'll make it into a dress etc etc.

These denim leggings have been fairly popular over the last 6-12 months, so what better idea than to make a SUMMER ALTERNATIVE!

Ewwww.

Seriously. WTF.
They're not, and never ever will be flattering on anyone!

And, to pretty much sum this up, look how deathly they look on the mannequin. Imagine what they look like on a real person!

Why do people do it to themselves?! Ahhhh.

a follow up..

Last week, I wrote a blog about Style Sessions

The lady who runs these Style Sessions has come into my work a few times now and she was really super nice and sweet to me, so I thought to myself 'Ok, maybe you are being a little bit harsh on her.. it is her job after all'. I decided to go and watch one of these "Style Sessions'' and give her a bit more of a chance.

So off I went, downstairs to the show. All I really needed to see was her holding up a hair extension and saying that it will compliment any outfit. Oh wait, I forgot to mention that the hair extension was ELECTRIC BLUE.

I think I've made up my mind on the Style Sessions.

Are 'Style Sessions' really necessary?

7 comments Monday, October 12, 2009
This is more of a personal complaint than an insightful investigation into some sort of media mishap.

I work in a fashion chain that's within a Westfield shopping centre. (To non Australian readers, Westfield are the major shopping centre/mall outlets in the country). As of the last few weeks, some random lady has been conducting 'Style Sessions' within the centre. These are basically when she gets up on stage with a microphone and a rack of clothes/accessories and tells every person watching that they're wearing the wrong clothes, basically that they look like shit and they should go and buy exactly what she tells them to.

These 'Style Sessions' would be fine if it was something along the lines of helping people choose the right jeans to fit their body type, but it's really not.
               Trinny and Susannah
So my point is, why should we be telling people what they should and shouldn't wear? We're not 3 years old anymore, Can't we all decide for ourselves what we're comfortable in and what style of clothing we like? Life's too short to worry about what other people think of our outfits. What happened to the term 'individuality'?

And as for the lady who runs these 'Style Sessions' and walks around Westfield like she's God's gift to the fashion world, I'd like to write her a letter;

Dear Annoying Westfield Style Sessions lady,
You are not Trinny and/or Susannah,
You also don't own the centre.
So, shut up.
Much love, x.

(The 'Fashion Stylist' I've been talking about also has a website. She announces that she'll send you style notes every month for the small fee of $49. I'm contemplating whether or not I should post the link to her website...)

What do you all think? Are these 'Style Sessions' a stupid idea or do you swing to the other side and think that they're good value?

I went vintage shopping today and stumbled across these shoes. I have one word to say: hectic.

They look like something that a Ladyboy from Thailand would wear.

(NO. I did not buy them! I also only had my phone with me and the room was dark, I apologise for crap quality photo.)

Top *Six* Tuesday

0 comments Tuesday, September 8, 2009
Ok, so I usually do 'Top Three Tuesday', but last week, I forgot. I was going to do it a day late but I got really lazy and thought to myself "Meh, no one will notice anyway".

Turns out a friend of mine DID notice and asked where the 'segment' was. I was literally in utter disbelief that someone actually noticed that I didn't do it. He has also requested that I do a 'super double edition' this week.

So here it is, it might not justify the term 'super', but at least it's 'double' !

6. Browsing online vintage stores. You come across some amazing, one-off items online. It's wonderful. I've found some lovely things via the ebay seller 'prettypreasevintage'. If you know of any other really good vintage sellers, please do let me know :)

5. Organic Shampoo and Conditioner. This is so great. I love it. The type I use is a pure Aloe Vera one. It's fair expensive, $40 for a litre, but it's so worth it. Excellent for your hair and you only need a tiny bit, so the litre lasts for awhile.

4. Hearing the news that the ever wonderful Kate Miller-Heidke is announcing tour dates next Friday. I absolutely love her, I will be at that concert more than likely wetting myself in pure euphoria.

3. Finding about 15 discs full of photos I'd forgotten about, including the files from one of my major works. This is part of my drama one, it's so shit, I'm embarassed as to how bad it is:

2. Reviewing the site statistics for 'shut up, vita' and discovering that I have readers from places such as Sweden, Finland, Poland, Mexico, Belgium and Slovenia! I could not believe it. I'll write another post about it and go into more detail- it's amazing!

1. Making people laugh. I think it is the best feeling in the world when you make a friend, family member or completely random person laugh. It's even better when they are literally doubled over, laughing until they cry.

I think I might do something different next week and instead of having Top 3/6 Tuesday, I might try something called 'Winners + Losers of the week'. Essentially the same thing as Top Three Tuesday except it'll be on Friday and include three negative things.. Ok so it's not really essentially the same thing, but you get my point.

What's on the top of your list this week, friends? :)

I am addicted to Looklet! It is the biggest distraction from anything and is a fabulous excuse for procrastination.

Here's two of my latest 'creations':

I just really liked the dress and shoes in this one, that's why I kept it so simple.

And in this one, I really, really, really, really want the blazer.

the joys of retail.

4 comments Wednesday, September 2, 2009
I'm currently working in a fashion chain store in an attempt to save some dollars before beginning my journalism degree next year. Because I now work during the week and not just weekends, I am convinced that the lunatics hibernate on weekends and weekdays are their time to shine. Every day, the girls and I have some sort of amusement provided to us by a customer.

And the anecdote of today is...... We have these lipglosses in stock. The lipgloss tube is patterned with a black leopard print like design, like this

And between the spots, the plastic is clear so you can see the colour of the lipgloss underneath. Anyway so, these two women were poring over the lipgloss bowl and were like "ohhh look at these!".. 2 minutes later, one of them opened the tester and remarked in a rather disappointed fashion: "Oh. The pattern is only on the outside of the packaging and not part of the lipgloss.. I'm not buying it anymore."

Literally. WTF. 1. Why would you be silly enough to think we were selling leopard print lipgloss and 2. Why the HELL would you think wearing leopard print lipgloss would be vaguely attractive? ....

Okay, maybe this was only funny at the time..?

Let me introduce you to a little website called Looklet. First introduced to me by Miss Peregrin, this website is a great way to kill time, but also to play around with outfits, mix and match and discover combinations never before seen, even in your wildest dreams.

Looklet allows you to choose a model, her outfit, shoes, accessories and even the backdrop for the shoot.

If you're as bored and sad as I am, you will revel in it's glory.

This is one outfit I put together quickly for the purpose of this blog entry.

Have fun with it, dears!
Post a comment on here with the outfits you put together! :)

p.s. if anyone can share with me how to fix up the settings on here, it will be much appreciated.. all my photos keep getting cut off!

One dress, 365 ways.

You know that feeling you have when you’re absolutely in awe of someone and think to yourself ‘Why didn’t I think of that idea?!’. That’s how I felt when I read about a young femme named Sheena Matheiken. She was raised and educated in India and has created the most revolutionary little thing known as The Uniform Project.

Basically it goes like this: 1 dress. 365 ways.
As of May 2009 Sheena has worn the same dress (She owns 7 identical ones) every single day, making it look different and unique each time by usage of layers and accessories (many of which are vintage, hand made or donated). All funds raised by The Uniform Project go directly to ‘The Akanksha Foundation’, specifically ‘Akanksha’s School Project’ which is devoted to bring education to children living in Indian slums. The Indian Government spends around $360 a year on the education of one child. 80% of these kids drop out before reaching Grade 10. Akanksha promises to spend the same figure on every child residing in slums to give them a better education.

I think this is such a phenomenal and absolutely wonderful assignment that is being undertaken, it will change the lives of so many disadvantaged young souls.

To donate funds to ‘The Akanksha Foundation’ go to: Donate Funds
($360 sends one child to school for a whole year, if you grab 20 friends, that’s $18 each which will go a long long way in improving a child’s life)

To donate accessories go to: Donate Accessories
(When Sheena wears your item, she gives a shout out to you on her website and will also link your blog.)

Even if you're just donating $5 or an old belt, every little bit counts :)
