~ Music Monday
3 comments Monday, August 16, 2010It's that time of week again, girlies (and guys too of course. I don't think any guys read this though. Actually, if you're a guy -and not Tony Abbott- could you please leave a comment, thanks x) for me to inflict my musical preferences upon your unwilling, innocent souls.

What sort of music do you like? I'm pretty varied in my music taste but I must say that death metal/screamo and rap will never have any place in my life. Yick.

1 comments Monday, August 2, 2010Here's a mixture of songs that are on high rotation of my iTunes at present.

I'll try and make this a regular theme of blog post if you guys are interested in knowing what I screech along to while I speed drive safely down the freeway.
Should concerts come with a rating?
6 comments Friday, March 19, 2010We all know from using common sense that any show that Lady Gaga performs isn't going to be sweet and lovely with rainbows and butterflies. So why was a parent compelled to take her 9 year old daughter to a Lady Gaga show? The shows of which are reported to be comprised of sex, blood and eating disorders.

read more “Should concerts come with a rating?”
When Linda Fitzsimmons took her daughter Jessica to the opening show on Wednesday, she said that she was "shocked and suprised" by it. "I couldn't believe it. Jessica likes her songs and I'm okay with her listening to them. There's no swearing in them and she's too young to understand the hidden meaning", she said. "But if I tried to take her to an MA 15+ movie, someone would stop me at the counter. Why not with concerts?"
The promoter of the Lady Gaga concerts in Australia, Michael Coppel said that it's nearly impossible to put a classification on a concert and the responsibility lies with the parent. "It's hard to rate a show. What someone might see as risque differs from person to person," he said.
I disagree and agree with him. If you can classify a movie, why can't you classify a concert? Michael Coppel also said that he doubts if Australian concerts will ever carry a classification because most promoters don't see the show before they book it. Surely though, the classification can be added before tickets go on sale? Even if the promoter hasn't seen the full concert, surely they can get video recording of rehearsals and a run down on what elements the show is going to involve? It can't be that difficult, surely. I think classifying concerts is probably a good idea in the long run. CD's are classified if there's swearing so if the songs on the CD are going to be in the concert, there's a minimum classification right there.
I do agree with him however, that it is the parents responsibility. Obviously Linda Fitzsimmons has been living under a rock for the past year or so. If she realised that Lady Gaga's songs had hidden meanings, perhaps it would have been wise to do a quick google or YouTube search to get a bit of background on her?
"But if I tried to take her to an MA 15+ movie, someone would stop me at the counter. Why not with concerts?" Quite simply, if you turned up to a concert that you'd paid a few hundred dollars for tickets and they said "You can go inside, but your daughter has to stay out here", you'd be making a very different story to the Daily Telegraph and possibly every other news outlet.
What do you guys think? Should concerts carry a classification?

Apparently Stevie Nicks and Taylor Swift are doing a MEDLEY of three songs.
'Rhiannon' - Fleetwood Mac
'You Belong With Me' - Taylor Swift
and
'Today Was A Fairytale' - Taylor Swift.
Shiiiittt.
Medley's never work. This almost guarantees to destroy 'Rhiannon'.
Stevie must be back on the cocaine to have agreed to do this.
This is like John Lennon doing a duet with the Jonas Brothers.
If Taylor appears on stage dressed in the full Stevie Nicks 'gypsy' style outfit, I will throw a chair at someone.
What we really need is for Kanye West to appear unannounced on stage..
"Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish but Stevie Nicks does the best 'Rhiannon' of all time!"

My 'Big Day Out' .... at Concord Hospital.
11 comments Saturday, January 23, 2010A couple of you might remember my excitement for the 2010 Big Day Out.
I only have one word to describe what should have been a fun, free spirited, musically enriching event: disaster.

I won't go into hectic detailing here but to cut a long story short, I fainted within 45 MINUTES OF ARRIVING. I didn't get to see any bands, definitely not Lily Allen, but spent most of the day in hospital recieving stitches on my skull. (You really don't want to know what sort of a state my cream crocheted vest was in)
Just to clarify- I wasn't under the influence of alcohol and certainly not drugs. The doctor who treated me diagnosed it as a faint from the heat. It was around 45 degrees celsius (around 113 degrees fahrenheit) that day and I wasn't the only one who suffered heat exhaustion.
All in all though it was an amazing day, judging by the average Facebook status update. I also heard that Lily Allen absolutely went off.
~
On a serious note though, if you're planning to go to any festivals this Summer; make sure you keep your fluids up. I drank a whole bottle of water in the 1/2 hour leading up to my collapse, obviously that wasn't enough. Have a good breakfast, drink lots of fluids and wear a hat.
Take it from someone who has stitches in the back of their head :P

This article says that 180 people had been treated for dehydration but just six of us lucky ones were taken to hospital.

Fleetwood Mac follow up

I can't even describe how good it was nor can I describe how much I love Stevie Nicks.
I did try and take photos but the lighting was horrible and they all came out super blurry.
But I found some elsewhere from that night so here they are:
and this one.. this was so sad.
I pretty much love Stevie Nicks ♥

5 comments Friday, December 4, 2009I'm going to see the legendary Fleetwood Mac in concert this Tuesday!
Even though all the band members will probably be using walking frames and taking nap breaks every 10 minutes, I am very excited. It should be a good show.
I am actually quite disappointed that Christine McVie will not be touring with the band as she left sometime during 1998. She was a pretty good vocalist. I like her. All other original band members (Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie) will be there thankfully.
I'll be sure to have some photos from the concert, but until then here are some photos from the vintage days of Fleetwood Mac.

Lovely readers! Do any of you like Fleetwood Mac? Or am I just totally living in the wrong decade?
ps, I wish I was Stevie Nicks ♥

Earth Song.
2 comments Wednesday, November 18, 2009No matter how much people try to deny and ignore issues such as global warming etc, we can't ignore the amount of destruction we're causing with pollution, deforestation and war. It's so sad and horrible that we can destroy this beautiful earth we live on so easily.
Michael Jackson wrote a song in 1995 'Earth Song', which is more relevant than ever at the present day. The world's a beautiful place and we're ruining it. We need to fix it.
Watching this music video gives me goosebumps. Amazing but shocking images. The lyrics carry such meaning and a powerful message.

Earth Song
What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain.. .
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores?
Aaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaah
What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores
Aaaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaaah
I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far
Aaaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaaaaaah
Hey, what about yesterday
(What about us)
What about the seas
(What about us)
The heavens are falling down
(What about us)
I can't even breathe
(What about us)
What about the bleeding Earth
(What about us)
Can't we feel its wounds
(What about us)
What about nature's worth
(ooo,ooo)
It's our planet's womb
(What about us)
What about animals
(What about it)
We've turned kingdoms to dust
(What about us)
What about elephants
(What about us)
Have we lost their trust
(What about us)
What about crying whales
(What about us)
We're ravaging the seas
(What about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(What about us)
What about the holy land
(What about it)
Torn apart by creed
(What about us)
What about the common man
(What about us)
Can't we set him free
(What about us)
What about children dying
(What about us)
Can't you hear them cry
(What about us)
Where did we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(What about us)
What about babies
(What about it)
What about the days
(What about us)
What about all their joy
(What about us)
What about the man
(What about us)
What about the crying man
(What about us)
What about Abraham
(What was us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn
Kate Miller-Heidke
5 comments Monday, November 16, 2009I went and saw singer/songwriter Kate Miller Heidke perform last night. I was blown away by her concert; she has the most amazing voice and some really beautiful songs, visit this link for one of her more spectacular pieces- it's really sad but nice at the same time.
I attempted to take some photographs throughout the duration of the concert, but my camera decided to be a social retard and they didn't turn out great unfortunately. Here's some of the better ones:

She had the most remarkable dress on too. I was trying to get a photo of the back of it, didn't come out quite as well as I would have liked.

Have you seen an amazing singer or band lately? Let me know!

The lip-synching debate.
12 comments Saturday, November 7, 2009Britney Spears is in Australia with her 'Circus' tour this month. I'm not a fan of Britney, so I won't be attending. I don't hate her or anything- I just don't really like her music much.
It's been revealed that Britney will be lip-synching all her songs. Apparently she prefers to focus on the 'theatrics' of the concert and the dance routines.
I'm not sure if it's just me, but if you're paying around $200 to see the show (the most expensive tickets available are $1500!), you sort of actually do want to see a live show. If I was going to the concert and I found out she was going to be lip-synching, I'd be more inclined to watch a DVD of her concert. Essentially- it's the same thing. They might as well pull down a big screen and play the audience recordings from other concerts from her Circus tour.
The claim of Britney wanting to focus on dance routines is a pretty lame defence, I think.
Pink has more than made it clear that you can sing and dance at the same time. Pink does somersaults on a trapeze and still manages to sing perfectly.
If I had tickets to Britney's show- I'd be selling them and going to see an artist who sort of understands the concept of a live show.
What do you guys think? Are concert-goers being ripped off?
Sydney Big Day Out- did you get tickets?
4 comments Thursday, October 8, 2009Anyone who was waiting up till midnight on Tuesday night to snap up tickets for the Sydney Big Day Out would know that Ticketmaster made a massive mistake. Tickets went on sale at 9pm via Ticketmaster when they were due to go on sale at 9am the following morning. 50,000 tickets were available and were all sold out by around 10.30pm when Ticketmaster realised what had happened.
By the time 9am Wednesday morning rolled around and the tickets went 'on sale', there were no tickets to actually go 'on sale'.
Tickets were also available via the Big Day Out website at midnight. So many people missed out then too because of slow internet and the demand on the BDO website caused it to run super slow. (Obligatory gloat: I got tickets with no problems, so I am ecstatic.)
The organisers have announced a second Sydney BDO event to compensate for the technical glitch. I think this is the stupidest idea ever. Firstly, everyone will have half their friends at one show and half at the other. Secondly, there's no way that they'll sell out two BDO's in one city. Thirdly, all the bands/singers/DJs will be so screwed from the first day, the second day they'll just be out of it.
Agree/Disagree? What do you guys think and did you get tickets?
Big Day Out 2010 line up announced!
9 comments Tuesday, September 29, 2009The first announcement of acts has finally been made. I'm very excited about this.
No Paul McCartney unfortunately, but some of the other acts are the epitome of excellence.
Here they are, your Big Day Out lineup for 2010!
Muse.

Powderfinger.

Lily Allen.

Eskimo Joe.

plus, Groove Armada, Grinspoon, The Mars Volta, Ladyhawke, Dizzee Rascal, Karnivool, Peaches, The Temper Trap, Kasabian, Midnight Juggernauts, Rise Against, Magic Dirt, Mastodon, The Horrors, Bluejuice, Calvin Harris, Kisschasy, The Decemberists, Tame Impala and Girl Talk.
And a personal favourite of mine... Lisa Mitchell. She is stunning.

I'm putting bets on Kate Miller-Heidke and Vampire Weekend being in the 2nd or 3rd lineup announcements.. I'd die of excitement if SoKo was going to be performing.
Who's excited?! Who do you think will be in the second and third announcements?

Top Three Tuesday.
6 comments Tuesday, September 22, 2009This 'Top 3 Tuesday' is super rushed because I forgot about it.. again!
Thanks to Corrine for reminding me ;)
3. Working every single day bar Mondays for the past two weeks. Sure it's tiring and on occasion, monotonous and boring. However, bring on next pay day is all I have to say! It's the best feeling in the world to not be tied down with educational commitments. I'm trying to make the most of it before next year.
2. Finally nabbing tickets to go and see Fleetwood Mac and Kate Miller Heidke.. Obviously in separate shows ;) I'm excited beyond belief. Should be two awesome nights of music.

1. Sorry, music related *again*. But I've been hearing whispers that the one and only PAUL MCCARTNEY may be playing at the Big Day Out 2010. If this is true, I will finally be able to fulfil my lifelong dream (this is true) of being one of those screaming, hysterical, teenage girls in 1964... Except it'll be 2010. Lily Allen is also rumoured to perform which will be great too, but nothing will ever beat the absolute legend of Paul McCartney. All my dreams are coming true... :D

Top *Six* Tuesday
0 comments Tuesday, September 8, 2009Ok, so I usually do 'Top Three Tuesday', but last week, I forgot. I was going to do it a day late but I got really lazy and thought to myself "Meh, no one will notice anyway".
Turns out a friend of mine DID notice and asked where the 'segment' was. I was literally in utter disbelief that someone actually noticed that I didn't do it. He has also requested that I do a 'super double edition' this week.
So here it is, it might not justify the term 'super', but at least it's 'double' !
6. Browsing online vintage stores. You come across some amazing, one-off items online. It's wonderful. I've found some lovely things via the ebay seller 'prettypreasevintage'. If you know of any other really good vintage sellers, please do let me know :)
5. Organic Shampoo and Conditioner. This is so great. I love it. The type I use is a pure Aloe Vera one. It's fair expensive, $40 for a litre, but it's so worth it. Excellent for your hair and you only need a tiny bit, so the litre lasts for awhile.
4. Hearing the news that the ever wonderful Kate Miller-Heidke is announcing tour dates next Friday. I absolutely love her, I will be at that concert more than likely wetting myself in pure euphoria.
3. Finding about 15 discs full of photos I'd forgotten about, including the files from one of my major works. This is part of my drama one, it's so shit, I'm embarassed as to how bad it is:

2. Reviewing the site statistics for 'shut up, vita' and discovering that I have readers from places such as Sweden, Finland, Poland, Mexico, Belgium and Slovenia! I could not believe it. I'll write another post about it and go into more detail- it's amazing!
1. Making people laugh. I think it is the best feeling in the world when you make a friend, family member or completely random person laugh. It's even better when they are literally doubled over, laughing until they cry.
I think I might do something different next week and instead of having Top 3/6 Tuesday, I might try something called 'Winners + Losers of the week'. Essentially the same thing as Top Three Tuesday except it'll be on Friday and include three negative things.. Ok so it's not really essentially the same thing, but you get my point.

What's on the top of your list this week, friends? :)
lame, lame music. and we love it. don't deny it.
3 comments Friday, August 28, 2009I know that I am not the only person in the world who groans loudly, displaying outward signs of annoyance when an old or very lame song comes on at a party, but secretly deep down inside, are actually enjoying the song very much... and know all the words to it... and have a dance routine made up for it...
Just do no one gets confused, when I say 'old music', I'm not referring to old awesome music like The Beatles or Michael Jackson or Fleetwood Mac etc etc. I am referring to old music as in old from like 8 years ago. I will bless you with such titles in a moment.
When I say lame music, it could just be music that falls under your radar of most hated music genre. For me, this is pop/mainstream music.
So dear friends, take a deep breath and confess to me all your dirty secret pleasures of the music world. Because I'm *so* nice. I'll list a couple of my own.
Boy Does Nothing -Alesha Dixon (Ok it's really catchy alright?! And I have a firm belief that this song should be used as an advertisment for dishwashing detergent.. think about it- it would *so* work!)
Pretty much anything by the Spice Girls
Shake It - Metro Station. (Yes, I am VERY embarassed to admit this.)
Blue (Da Ba Dee) - Eiffel 65
Candy - Aaron Carter
5,6,7,8 - Steps (My bootscootin' baby.. is driving me crazy.. Ok I don't actually like this song, but the list was so lame already, I just had to add this one in.)
Bring It All Back - S Club 7
I'm sure I'll think of more to come in the next few days, so I'll keep updating the list.
In the meantime though, do share your favourite crap songs with me! :)
